Dragon Time
Dragons flying overhead, breathing fire
burning castles walls, crumbling down
around preachers and politicians
I ready myself for the next patrol,
armor hanging,
chainmail heavy upon me as the television roars
news of more flying beasts coming.
My love sits in corners mumbling words to goddesses
calling names into the sky — she cries in fear
“no one believes in anything anymore”.
Grabbing swords as dragons swoop down
devouring men without discrimination.
We aren’t safe these days,
not since the dragons came.
Preying on male bodies like snack time,
stealing lives of those in power.
My love sits, slitting wrists in blood sacrifice
Silence her only companion — huddled in darkness
My love doesn’t sing anymore.
Her smile faded, her light has dimmed
Dragons circling the monumental praises of soldiers
warriors of long ago — fallen in battle
